Volunteer Board

Our leadership board is dedicated and truly works every day with the well-being of their members and community as first priority. Unlike a corporate bank, we understand the differentiating needs of the everyday individual. Our board’s voices are heard and always valued, for every opinion and thought is different and should be attended to. We approach our leadership in a unique way that helps us move in directions to support all the different stories and members we come in contact with.

A Legacy of Growth and Financial Service

Humble Beginnings

Altura Credit Union’s journey began in 1957 as the Riverside Schools Credit Union. Initially, its primary purpose was to provide financial services to employees of the county’s school district. This modest start marked the beginning of a significant financial institution that would evolve to serve a much wider community.

Expanding Horizons

Recognizing the growing needs of the region, the credit union expanded its field of membership in 2004. This expansion encompassed Riverside and San Diego counties, as well as select cities in Orange and San Bernardino counties. To reflect this geographic growth and its aspirations, the credit union rebranded itself as Altura Credit Union. The name “Altura” is Spanish for “height,” symbolizing the credit union’s commitment to reaching new heights and elevating the financial well-being of its members.

A Strategic Merger

In 2015, Altura further solidified its position as a leading financial institution by merging with Visterra Credit Union. This strategic move brought together two strong credit unions, creating a combined entity with over $1.1 billion in assets and 118,000 members. The merger allowed Altura to offer a wider range of financial products and services, enhanced technological capabilities, and increased its ability to serve the community.

A Community-Focused Approach

Altura’s growth has been driven by a commitment to its members and the communities it serves. The credit union’s focus on providing personalized service, competitive rates, and convenient access to financial services has contributed to its success. Additionally, Altura has been actively involved in various community initiatives, supporting local organizations and causes.

As Altura continues to grow and evolve, it remains dedicated to its core values of respect, innovation, integrity, passion, and excellence. By staying true to its mission, Altura aims to be the financial partner of choice for generations to come.

Nurturing Future Leaders

The Altura Foundation, the charitable arm of Altura Credit Union, was established in 1993 with a mission to support education and community development. One of its primary initiatives is a college scholarship program designed to assist deserving high school seniors in their pursuit of higher education.

Eligibility and Endowments

Any student graduating from a public or private high school within Riverside County is eligible to apply for these scholarships. The foundation offers a variety of endowed scholarships, including:

  • Bonnie Gail Polis Educational Endowment: This endowment honors the memory of Bonnie Gail Polis, a dedicated educator and community member.
  • Terry Ferrone Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is named in memory of Terry Ferrone, a former Altura board member and community leader.
  • Altura Board of Directors Educational Endowment: This endowment represents the collective commitment of the Altura Board of Directors to supporting education.
  • Dr. Linda Wisher Educational Endowment: This scholarship honors Dr. Linda Wisher, a former educator and community advocate.

Making a Difference

Since its inception, the Altura Foundation has awarded over $526,950 in scholarships to 586 talented Riverside County high school seniors. These funds have helped countless students attend college and pursue their dreams. By investing in education, the Altura Foundation is not only helping individual students but also contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the community.
