Learn to Avoid Fraud and Lending Pitfalls at Altura Workshop
October 16 in Riverside(Riverside, Calif.) Oct. 4, 2013 – According to the Federal Trade Commission, more than 1 million fraud-related complaints are filed annually, costing consumers an estimated $1.4 billion, or about $535 each, in fraud-related losses. A free workshop from Altura Credit Union is offering tips on how consumers can protect themselves from scammers and con artists. “Fraud and Lending Pitfalls” meets from 7 to 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Altura’s headquarters, 2847 Campus Parkway, Riverside. This workshop is the tenth in the credit union’s year-long “Breakfast With Altura” workshop series. The October class offers information on what to watch for, prevention tips and resources to avoid the latest scams. The class will review scams such as: • Telemarketing fraud • Identity theft • Health care or health insurance fraud • Investment-related fraud • Mail fraud • Loan modification and debt elimination fraud. Participants will also learn about: • Websites that offer updates on the newest scams and enable consumers to report scams to the authorities • What to do if victimized by a scam A continental breakfast will be served.
